Woman sitting one row back at the Melbourne Writers Festival, excitedly, to her friend:
“It says here that this is one of the world’s top 10 literary festivals. And we’re here!”
Teresa and I were (t)here, too. How cool is that? :-)
News, clues and the odd sideways glance

Thanks for visiting, Matt!
On that particular day we enjoyed seeing Shane Maloney in conversation with Graeme Blundell; Alexander McCall Smith and Quentin Jardine talking crime; Alexander interviewed by Joanna Murray-Smith…
In between sessions we queued for an hour or so in the bookshop, striking up random conversations with other queuers and happily pawing over the stock as we shuffled slowly towards the ultimate goal of exchanging a few words and a slightly inky handshake with Alexander McCall Smith (yep, him again — like Chickenman, he was everywhere).
Gorgeous weather, large and happy crowd at the festival, a great day to wag work and pretend to be hip intellectuals ;-)
Sadly, I committed an egregious diary error the next day and we missed out on seeing John Clarke and Clive James discussing WH Auden. Bugger.
Very cool!!! Who were you seeing?
